Here are a few recommendations.
Check all of them out on trip advisor and see what you think and whether the menus suit your tastes.
Definitely need to book, where possible, especially on a weekend and peak holiday times. However at the moment with a busy summer ahead of us, I would recommend booking every night of the week where possible.
Also if you follow our Facebook page (link below), we have put lots on there also. Please note my list comes with a disclaimer that we do not have much time to eat out on a regular basis and I do know that some places have struggled with a lack of hospitality staff.
Italians
Cosa Nostra – on Church Street – more of a restaurant with a wide choice of pasta, meat dishes. Over the old swing bridge – 15 mins walk from our B&B. Really good food.
Moutreys. – on Grape Lane – pizzeria and pasta dishes – 15 mins walk from our B&B. Lovely pizzas
Pizza West – just on the West Cliff near ourselves (3 mins walk) opened in 2021, lovely restaurant. Pizzas are good though recent comments are that prices have risen (currently open Tues-Sat). It is mainly pizzas, limited other dishes.
Whitby Brewery – not an italian as such but serves excellent pizzas. Behind the Abbey and has lovely views. Outdoor courtyard (and new this year, some seating inside, they have just recently completed a refurb) This is up the 199 steps towards the Abbey so a good 20-25 mins walk from our B&B.
Fish and Chip Shops
Magpie (this is the one with the most famous reputation however only take a few bookings in advance per evening, otherwise it is a queue),(12 mins walk)
Trenchers and Quayside both are typical fish and chip restaurantswith great food. (10 mins walk)
Fishermans wife – recently named in top 5 fish and chip shops in the UK, very good fish and chips plus a good selection of specials and lovely location next to sea front. Fishermans wife also has a newly opened outside terrace which overlooks the sea. (10 mins walk).
Nearest fish and chip shop to us if the weather is good and you want to eat outside is Silver Street Fisheries on Silver Street, 5 mins walk from our B&B.
Pubs/Restaurants with Food

Wetherspoons – Angel down on the Harbour side – large pub.
Granby Pub on Skinner Street – Good home-cooked standard pub food, very reasonably prices.
Resolution The Vault – just down from the road from our B&B. Recent guests have described it as a posh Wetherspoons with some good meal deals. They have just recently opened the ground floor as a bar with a restaurant. It looks absolutely lovely and the chairs are really comfy. I just had a few drinks in here, not had chance to eat yet but menu looked decent. They serve Sunday lunch til early evening, always best to book.

Bon Appetit – this is also just down the road from our B&B and very near the Vault mentioned above – just opened earlier in April this year – nice bar area and food reviews are really good. Mixed pub/restaurant type food.
Newly opened – Fat Badger, in the Royal hotel – near the Whalebone arch, only 6-7 mins walk from our B&B

Falling Foss Waterfall – this is a drive out of Whitby but worth it for the lovely waterfall and walks and a lovely house serving drinks and sandwiches and cakes ( based outside so weather dependent). Nice play area for smaller children. Only has certain weeks of opening this year – see their facebook site.
Endeavour pub – Church street – lovely local pub with live music some nights around 9pm ( a little bit unusual as allows to take your own food in, bonus is there is a lovely fish and chip shop right next door).

Also for anyone that is walking the Cleveland way, and needs a packed lunch, this costs £8 and needs to be pre-ordered and if ordered in enough time, Simon makes some amazing sausage rolls (on request)

Thanks
