Considering the current concerns with Corona Virus, this seems an odd title for a blog.  I have to be honest, as with most of you, the past few months have been a real worry. Our industry is seeing a huge impact due to the uncertainty.  So with initial panic over I have looked at what I can change to help our business through this testing time and that was firstly about managing our money.

Anywhere where I can save, be it mobile phone contracts, or un-necessary subscriptions, I have contacted and looked to cancel or re negotiate.  We are on a turn the light off regime with the children, which they always do at school but never seem to manage at home.  It might not seem much but if over the course of the next few months, if it saves us a couple of hundred pound it’s better in our pocket.

We’ve then started looking at the free and cheap options that are on our doorstep.  Now, if you follow us on instagram or facebook, you will know that we love a coffee and a cake when we go anywhere.  Thermos flask and a home made flapjack, here we come, Whitby beach and Pannet Park are right on our doorstep.

And now the optimism.   I think we all need to have something to look forward to, I love planning our diary and working out what to do.  At the moment, it is the simple pleasures of popping to Pannet Park with our children (4 and 7 so still do love running around the park and exploring the flowers over there).  Heading down to Whitby beach for a bracing walk, with my new flask this week so Eadie and I can share a hot chocolate whilst watching the waves crash onto the beach.

The weather has been lovely, blue skies, some sunshine, still a bit cold and with our thick winter coats, hats and gloves, we have managed to last a few hours down there.

I am looking to the future when we can don our swimming costumes, dip our toes into the sea and build sandcastles.  All normal things, but in this current worrying times, they don’t seem normal at the moment.

We had the pleasure of being invited to Eden camp in Malton yesterday.  Eden camp was a prisoner of war camp for the Second World War.  It is now a visitor centre, giving an insight into the war, and what life was like during the 1940.  They have some great stuff there and is a fantastic educational resource.  It has always been recommended to ourselves but we have never had the opportunity to go before.  It was a great few hours out, even with a 4 year old in tow.  Lots to see, do and read plus even a small outdoor play area which Eadie loved.  Well worth a visit and it is just off the turn off from the A64 following the signs to Whitby.  About 28 miles, a 40 min drive.

I appreciate that the situation is changing daily, but at the moment, Whitby is very much open for business, with a few closures and following government advice.   We are preparing for the slow down and also when Corona virus starts to subside and people look to get back to normal.  Hoping to see you all in the near future and to welcome you back to the Corra Lynn. Whitby is continuing and so are we.

These are unprecedented times but I have the belief that things will get back to ‘normal’ whatever ‘normal’ might then look like, and we would just like to say thank you to all our guests, family and friends that have sent us messages of support over the past few weeks.

With this in mind I need to type something positive.  As the news stated today that a smile could help your immune system so I want to believe that.

Warmest regards from Corra Lynn, Whitby, UK
